Been in Duck the last 25 years in the last full week of Sept.Always small Blues or nice Puppies.Although last year was pretty slim.Rods depend upon the surf use anything from a 7' in calm to a 9' in heavy.Fireball rigs are good for Blues. Always use the ones where you can change the hooks, not one with the pre-tied hooks. The hooks on them are usually too big.#4 is about right. The Blues are only 1-3 lbs. Also can cast for them with a small Kastmaster or like lure. Try the Puppies on a fishfinder rig. I usually make them myself and use a #2 hook. For both of them use very fresh Mullet. If you can throw a net you can usually find them in the sound and surf that time of year.Fish high tide and only throw midway between the wash and outer bar.Casting too far only gets you into shallow water on the outer bar.Read the beach, look for deeper blue holes. If you find a riptide fish the slack water on either side. You might still find some bottem fish, croakers spot.Use a bottem rig and fishbite bloodworms or squid. You can uaually find them by looking for mole crab remaines on the beach and fishing there.
