I'd get a higher quality rope , kind of like what climbers use but smaller. It will handle better and not get tangled as easily as cheap rope would. It is also probably stronger.

Nothing is worse than needing a rope gaff or a pier net for a nice fish and having to deal with a mess of tangled up rope.
