the stocked in streams are raised in hatcheries. they are fed pellets. they do raise brook trout in hatcheries, but they are different from the eastern native brook trout. they spawn in the cold water streams. a 12 inch native brook is a nice one. i think they are in the char family. pollution, acid rain, and water quality have taken their toll. they are a beautiful fish with spots, orange fins and other colors. like i said they are pink inside like a salmon. i only know a couple of places to try and catch them. i have one place where rainbows are "creek born". they actually spawn in this stream. look totally different from a stocked rainbow trout. they have smaller heads and a curved body. i have caught some 16 to 18 inches. fight like crazy. getting to old to chase them. weather warmed up here. mushrooms are up. stay safe and well.
