I've got one been eating a long time but I would describe this as a cross between chili and rice, sometimes I fix it instead of regular chili.
Texas Hash (Modified Betty Crocker 1971)
1 pound ground beef
3 large onions, sliced
1 large green pepper, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 (15.5 oz) can red kidney beans
2 (14.5 oz) cans diced tomatoes
3/4 cup uncooked regular rice
3 tsp chili powder
2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepperHeat oven to 350 degrees. In large skillet, cook and stir meat, onion, green pepper and celery until meat is brown and vegetables are tender. Drain off fat. Stir in red kidney beans, diced tomatoes, rice, chili powder, salt and pepper, heat through. Pour into ungreased 2-quart casserole. Cover; bake 1 hour. 4 to 6 servings.
To save time when making this casserole, use an oven-proof skillet or dutch oven to brown ground beef. Add remaining ingredients; cover and bake.
To get the best results with all casseroles, use a baking dish of the size and shape given in the recipe. If your dish is too large, the moisture will evaporate; if too small, the food will bubble over. Oven-to-table baking dishes are so practical and pretty, and come in a variety of sizes.
