The smaller length rods can double for bottom fishing or throwing lures and as said you don't have to throw it far maybe early spring.

All the tackle shops will have an employee low end, high end pick for you if you go in there. I like a 10 foot surf rod for bottom rigs.

The Daiwa Sealine Surf Rods and Daiwa BG Spinning Reels "tanks" are what I use, they have both been around for many years and I love them.

I think Tsunami and Star rods use that same rod blank too sometimes you will get a defect if it doesn't break right off the bat your good, FYI.

The braid will cut mono if you cross lines in crowd like at the point or on the piers and you have to use a finger glove when casting the line.

I don't use it because braid will cut grooves in your guides over time and the repair job will cost as much or more than the rod that you liked.

Some tie braid to mono for extra line backing and the lure and sheepshead crowd like to use it because you can feel the bites better no stretch.

My system is 15 pound Berkley Trilene Big Game Monofilament Fishing Line in dark green so I can see tying knots and where the line is out there.

It will handle a 4 oz sinker with no shock leader and 5 ozs if you take it easy. I use storm sinkers to cut down on an ounce instead of pyramid.

A standard double hook bottom rig with Eagle Claw small size 5 already snelled hooks or the small hooked float rigs are good too keeps crabs off.

Bait to try Fishbites bloodworms, sand fleas, small cut pieces of shrimp, squid, fish. You can have a variety going on or just a fish of the day.

Usually sight feeders when wind is blowing off the ocean like bluefish, flounder, trout, pompano, muddy off beach, sea mullet, spot, croaker, drum.
