A guy I fish with down on OBX in the fall used to be a guide for Orvis on the headwaters Shenandoah . Told me about guiding a client and this kid named Jimmy was across the river catching trout when everything he tried for his client didn't work. He said he had to break down and wade across the river and ask jimmy what he was using so he could get his client some fish. He said, If I remember right, It was a piece of corn with a trout worm and another piece of corn. He said Jimmy gave him some worms and corn and he put it on his client's line and worked like a charm. Said He never guided again without the "jimmy rig" in his bag of tricks.
I really miss those days in the PA mountains fishing little streams for native trout. You had to approach a hole in a manner that would not spook the fish, sometimes on your belly and finessing your rod in between the mountain laurel to get in the hole. Good times.
