1981. Memories...
- Agreed to 1st ever family vacation. Boozed up at the time.
- 4 cyl. Fairmont stick shift wagon. No A/C.
- Clueless, as to what to expect.
- Luggage under tarp on rack. Shredded 1/2 way there.
- No freeways back then.
- Woke kids at 2300 hrs. and drove them asleep in PJ's.
- Rental brochure had drawings of cottages - no pics.
- Rental Co. = RealEscapes.
- Olde Duck Beach. 4 bedroom ranch.
- Rent 1 week = $350. Thought outrageous.
- Shared w/ another family. Total 11.
- No phone, no TV, no hot tub, no pool.
- Outside shower in front w/ no walls for privacy.
- Got electric shock each time touched cold water handle.
- Closest phone about mile away at Winks. 1 gas pump.
- Ben Franklin the only "Big Box Store".
- Never locked doors...cottage or car.
- Only 7 cottages on the street.
- Youngest daughter afraid of everything incl. the water.
- Guard shack blocked 12 north of Sanderling.
- Crabbed surf to no avail:):)
- Crabbed standin in sound and were chased by snake.
- Caught lot of fish but destroyed freshwater reels in surf.
- Horse pulled veggie cart down street daily.
- Chance to buy cottage on the street for $68K.
- Came back the next year ... last time did only 1 week.
