that is a good question. to many lines out there to choose from. grandfather always said the lightest line you could get away with was the best. I use to fish the north fork of the Shenandoah river before it got so polluted. always used 6lb. blue stren for smallmouth and panfish. for catfish in lower Shenandoah 10 to 12 lb. stren. I think stren is not as good as it used to be. for outer banks I have no clue. when your slinging 4 oz. I think you would need some tough stuff.
