Ooooh, openin a can of worms...
While your description is "spot on" re: this Capt, source of permanent residence is up to Mrs. Capt who on many occasions has made it clear - she will only live close to majority of her children. Note: they began years ago to place sticky notes w/ their names on the back of her treasures so they receive them on her passing, and son has told her for years he's already picked a home for her.
Side note: neighbors just placed parents in assisted living apt. $6000 a month! $7000 a month w/ 3 meals provided.
Celebrated 50 years of "bliss" last weekend. You want this Capt to rock the boat now??
Had chances over the years to buy incl. Duck and Whalehead. Would have been 2nd homes w/o rental.
And lets add a correction to the "waiting room" description as you put it.... its "God's Waiting Room"! When moved here 14 years ago was a joke, but now as community has aged it can be depressing. Some days dread ring of the phone. Also depressing is to hear neighbor constantly telling others you don't belong here - you should be in a nursing home. Real compassion 101!!
That neighbor is next door. Has absolutely no interests, hobbies, nothing... but to butt into others business. Began taking down pine uprooted by winter winds last week. Neighbor asked why it wasn't gone yet, said "he was tired of looking at it". Then asked me to come over and re-hang pictures on walls as "they can't do it any longer"... Hmmm, this Capt installed those pics, + over years, painted 1/2 his rooms, replaced his faucets, replaced his disposal, fixed water leaks, installed most of his large paver patio, still mow part of his lawn, repaired his locks, repaired his patio screen door, + dozens of other things...just goes on and on. Has 4 children, 1 minutes away, but you don't see them helping - ever!

Be down 6/16 - 7/7 this trip. Salvo SF and Rodanthe OF. If you're around durin those dates could teach you how to fish, break bread and best of all you could relate your advice face to face w/ Mrs. Capt!!
