I've had several aquariums over the years , had Oscars , Jack Dempseys , Pirahnas , Bluegills , Bass and all sorts of little fish. I love watching the big fish mope around , then come to life when you put small fish in there. I had a bluegill that got so big he could eat about 15 crappie minnows in just a few minutes. It was carnage. I never had any luck with smallmouth bass , but a friend built an eight ft long sorta shallow tank , put river rocks on the bottom and had one end raised. He put an oversized Magnum 350 filter in it , with the pick up on the low end and the return on the high end so it made it like running water. His got to around 18 inches before it ended up on the floor while he was on vacation. It was something to watch that fish eat.
King , if you could get a big enough tank to keep big bait alive for the winter... :):)
The aquarium trade wrecked havoc in Florida with oscars , other chichlids and snakeheads. The everglades is full of Oscars , and apparently people are eating them. The one I had was fat , and I always wondered what he would taste like. The picture and the link are from a friend of mine in FL that fishes the everglades pretty often. He catches a lot of nice fish there , and in the Gulf. I'd say the Oscars are fun on a flyrod.
