Another rainy morning.

I didn't know if you were shoveling snow yet. The leaves usually start turning around the first week of November here. I noticed some of the fox grape leaves are starting to turn yellow, I have a bunch of it in the trees. It's a wild grape vine with single black grapes, sweet but full of seeds. Nothing like grapes at the grocery store.
The apples are coming in now and that's not a bad deal on pumpkins, usually it's around $15 for a big pumpkin at the Tarheel produce stand in Kill Devil Hills. I don't cut them out, I draw a face on it with a black Sharpie marker then recycle it into pumpkin pies after Halloween.
The ocean is starting to lay down looks like the northern states are getting it now. The beach had a lot of sand fence, 2x4 boards and pieces of broken plastic like maybe from toys. Flattened the beach way down from the dunes exposing some old jetties and formed a bar with a small gully up close in part of this area. There was some overwash under one house but wasn't bad on the south end of Kitty Hawk, the beach road looked fine and a lot of cars were out and about.
I try to avoid driving over there when it's a mess. I had to get a tire fixed this past spring that I think was caused by running over lumber trying to get off the beach road awhile back during a storm. I kept having to put air in the tire every couple of weeks and didn't see anything stuck in there. Went to Coastal Lube in Kill Devil Hills and they found it, a headless nail in the tire.
That storm also had some crazy lightning and thunder before daylight yesterday morning. It was like a really bright flash, the worst one was like a nuke going off and blinded me for a second and right after when my vision was coming back all the outside lights everywhere were flickering and looked just like everything was on fire in the rain. Then that was followed by a continuous clap of thunder that moved not stopping all the way up the beach.
I could have stayed at a rental house on Smith Mountain Lake this week. I was told the fish have been after bugs or something and busting the surface behind the house every afternoon at 4pm.
