You don't wear shoes with them, some people really like those for the beach and they would be better for the sink into quick sand but I would think if you stepped on a sharp broken shell you might get a leak.

I think my boots are Red Ball, I try not to use them if I don't have to like if it's warm enough to wear shorts with a lined zippered sweat shirt and flip flops I'll just stand the cold water or later on time the waves right to cast. Usually doesn't soak all the way through tennis shoes on the first hit when your running from a wave. :))
