I'm convinced some try to mess up your pictures, it's kind of like the people that swim in your lines when nobody else is around you. They can be aggravating during weddings on the beach. The best way to go for a wedding on the beach is to buy the wedding permit from the park service and have it at Coquina Beach in front of the lighthouse at Oregon Inlet or further south on Hatteras Island. They say they won't show up but will and keep the people away from it.
The 1950s would have been interesting, how much was gas back then? It was before my time but I have heard you could throw a hook in the water anywhere and catch a fish. I also was told back then the beach at Kitty Hawk was a lot different, real wide with a double dune line. The beach was changed to the way it is now here by the Ash Wednesday Storm in March 1962.
This book below has a lot of old pictures taken of the aftermath from Southern Shores to South Nags Head. Also compares pictures taken from a plane in March 1962 to the same shots taken from a plane in 1986 of the area. You can see what it was like back then and in 1986.
