Peak season toll est. = $50. Come on....just when you thought the NC turnpike charge was too much on weekends.

Interesting how over the years the connection point in Whalehead (Corolla) has moved steadily north. Interesting too is how the main reason to build has changed from evacuation route to lessening weekend gridlock on 158 and 12.

Last time up that way, about 8 years ago, crew cried seeing what had been done to what was once a beautiful, safe, and sparsely populated area. Commerce then, Duck northwards (early 80's) was Winks in Duck (1 gas pump and a pay phone), and in Corolla the Post Office, and a Riggs Realty office. Cottages then had no phone or TV's.

At least 1x yearly crew still pulls out slides and videos and relives those early years in what was a paradise. Gone are the simpler times, gobbled up by commerce, never to be enjoyed again:):)

Daylight breaking on the North Coast w/ cold and rain. White Christmas just a maybe at this point.
