In Response To: Second visit to Nags Head, a lot of questions (Mystic Island Hopper)
Night fishing around the 4th of July in Nags Head might not be very good from the week before to the week after because a lot of people are shooting fireworks off the beach not just on the 4th. You might want to try before dark about an hour before sunset or early morning.
The slough on the north side of Nags Head Pier is wide and deep. I'd try fishing there at the Huron wreck at the Bladen Street access. The wreck has 2 small buoys on it so you can see where it's at in the water, one on the bow and the other on the stern. High tide will probably be the best. I'm not sure what you'll catch. Everything likes sand fleas, the ones with the orange eggs and the softies are really good. If you run into the little croaker or sand perch try using them for live bait.
The beach north of Ramp 4 at Oregon Inlet is open. They did limit the numbers one holiday weekend last year, you might want to try Ramp 23 or Ramp 30 further south if that happens.
Here's a flounder and triggerfish from one of the beach wrecks awhile back. You can also find the triggerfish hanging around the fishing pier pilings during the summer. The big flounder like to lay under the piers. You'll have a better chance at both when the water is clear....
