Wow. Had a very similar experience a few years ago when my brother in law was watching my soaking bait while throwing a kastmaster. I went to the house to get a soft drink,the kind that one drinks at the beach,and upon return my rig was gone into the abyss with a sand trail behind.Got a biggen on he exclaimed.What he had caught was my for mentioned rig with some big ole thing at the other end of it.After about thirty minutes people started to gather and my sister began to video.The sun was about two o'clock at the time and sis panned to the horizon about fivish.About two hours plus in hindsight but what a blast.Not quite as big as yours but in my mind at least it had a tail about four feet long.The hook came out in the wash thank goodness.Fun stuff.Never know what's going to happen in the surf.Glad you guys had fun with the catch.
