All the piers are unique in their own way. In the old days my favorites were like a lot of people, Kitty Hawk Pier and Outer Banks Pier. I still like to fish on them for old times, Kitty Hawk Pier is a lot shorter and Outer Bank Pier is real shallow.
The fall run will start showing up first at Avalon Pier and Nags Head Pier or all the piers could be catching the same thing like big spot, puppy drum, trout or bluefish.
The fishing can be really good or really bad during early fall. The weather plays a big part. Hurricanes going by way out can make the surf rough and you might have to fish on a pier. A current and wind coming from a northern direction is probably going to be best. For the surf the north sides of the piers should be good places and the little bridge or catwalk might be worth checking out, also the sound behind Bodie Island Lighthouse.
