Yes there are channels deep enough for barges full of gravel. You would be alright once you got out into the Currituck Sound. I'm not familiar with getting out of Martins Point, I would suggest high tide for more water.

The sounds tend to rough up in the afternoon when the wind picks up and I wouldn't go to far away from where you put your boat in at.

I would suggest the boat ramp at Oregon Inlet for the Pamlico Sound.
