Stuffed Peppers

I had this recipe below about once a week when I was a kid and still love it. When I was real little I just ate the meat inside and left the pepper. :)
No Bake Stuffed Peppers
3 medium size green bell peppers
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp basil
1 can (15oz) tomato sauce
1 lb. ground beef
1 small onion chopped or 1 tbsp dried minced onion
2 cup bag shredded mild chedder cheeseCut peppers in half lengthwise. Remove and discard stem ends and seeds. Parboil in boiling water for 10 minutes; drain. Add sugar and basil to tomato sauce; set aside. Brown ground beef and onion well in a 1/3 cup water. Water should cook out before beef is finished cooking. Stir in 1/2 cup tomato sauce and 3/4 cup shredded cheese, cover and simmer 5 minutes. Put mixture in bowl. Then put green pepper halves in pan and spoon meat mixture into peppers. Pour remaining sauce around peppers, cover and simmer 5 minutes. Serve peppers with remaining sauce and additional shredded cheese on top.
