It's like hunting unicorns. Best chance would be with a northeast wind at first light in the morning, Coquina Beach on the north side of Oregon Inlet, last parking area on the beach road in South Nags Head, the beach within sight of the rock jetty on the south side of Oregon Inlet. I think Pea Island is temporarlly closed. Look for the birds diving, you need to be out there and ready before it starts getting light. If not there's puppy drum and trout, probably skates and dog sharks for sure. The beach on the north sides of the piers are good areas.

The ocean has been rough so you might have to fish from a pier. The piers should be open until the end of November, Jennette's Pier stayed open during the winter. I'd fish right behind where the waves break on the outer bar. The catwalk at Oregon Inlet can be a good spot for early stripers fishing with live eels, I don't think you can fish on the catwalk right now. I don't know if they will show up, probably middle to end of December would be the best chance.
