I had the same problem with a pitbull puppy up in carova. It showed up when I was suf fishing and followed me home. I spent hours first checking with the locals and then going from house to house checking the rentals. I didn't want to feed him beacuse I was afraid he would get attached. I went to bed figureing he would find his way home but he was waiting on my porch for me when I got up. Should have seen my Labs face when the little guy wouldn't let her near me. Then I called animal control and they put me in touch with a hotline for lost dogs. The owner was down on the paved road and just called it in. It turned out that i was a local that was one giant mud puddle away from the doors I knocked on. It was nice to give the little guy some love after we knew his owner was on the way.
