The Manns Harbor / Manteo bridges and inside of Oregon Inlet on the west side of that bridge are good areas for a variety of fish. Might take some time to figure out.
The sound is not very deep so try to use the marked channels to move around in it. During the summer the southwest wind tends to pick up in the afternoon making the water rough in the sound and ocean. Watch out for thunderstorms. I would start to head back in if you start to see white caps on the sound. Make sure you have your safety equipment like the fire extinguisher, they will stop you and check for it.
I wouldn't go under the bridge to the east side at Oregon Inlet with the 20' CC or near the bridge with the other boat. I've picked john boaters up before hanging on to the bridge pilings at Oregon Inlet and got their boat back that was going out the inlet with nobody in it.
The east side of the bridge at Oregon Inlet is like a big washing machine with rollers on the shoals on a normal day and in a small boat it's kind of like bull riding.
