Really Late Report

Apologize for not posting sooner. Health issues, then interior painting.

Waves...10/15 - 10/22.

Arrived 5 days after new new Inlet bridge opened. No problems.

Temps mid 60's to upper 70's all week. Surf rough calming by last evening. Heavy rain 1 day. 12 and lots of side streets flooded for 24 hours after.

Surf = puffers, skates and puppy drum. Few fisherman out. Of those all week...never saw em pull anything in. Fished w/ neighbor w/ us. Couple of puffers for him.

Tri-city really rough. Campers in ditches along 12. Salvo day use loaded w/ debris. Fishin Hole closed. Hatteras Jacks open. Jo Bob's closed, and lookin abandoned.
Usual rentals on Sea Vista and East Point looked OK.

Boardwok South, Down Under, Top Dog only restaurants open. Ate at all of them + Captains Table in Buxton.
Major damage to Lisa's, Leonardo's pizza's (and big box attached) and Stingwrays. Austins also closed.

Boardwalk to beach in St. Waves 1/2 twisted and pulled out to beginning NS land.

Manteo shops and restaurants about 20% open. High water mark on wall inside Kitty Hawk Kites. About 4 feet off floor. There are about 4 foot of stairs to get inn so water was truely 8 ft.

Stayed in 7 bedroom OF rental 1st street into Salvo. Not in good shape. Wear and tear. Surprised rental $$ so high considering. Infested bad w/ fruit flies. Figure last renters out before Irene left food in garbage cans, and never cleaned till few days before we arrived. Exterminator rid about 90% of em.

Drove down to ferry docks. Saw some debris piled for pick up, in towns but not much.

Saw space station go over one evening.

1 snake on road.

Mosquitos worse than expected till the rain and wind which cleared em out for the last couple days. No repellant. Covered all but face to get from house to the beach.

And of course even w/ just a few "visitors" can expect problems. 1st morning. Laugher for you guys...fishin early, beautiful sunrise. Down beach come young couple w/ nice golden lab ....unleashed of course. Pick up bait so as not to have problem w/ dog. Dog near but out of vision. Feel something on leg...sure enuf...relieving his bladder on the Capt's leg. "Visitors" were quick to inform that there is no leash law after mid Sept. Capt's comments not for print here. Never saw them again.
