That's close to how I clean my spot. I have 2 or 3 dollar store knives laying around that I use , but I think they were labeled as paring knives? Plastic handle with a paper thin blade that you can get razor sharp on a good stone. On the really small ones , I'll even scale them and leave the skin on - the scaling gives my boy something to do :)

I got into a run of spots a few years ago and every fish I caught was 3/4 to 1 lb. We had some good fish fries out of that one :)
