Fishing, post-Irene

Not to sound too opportunistic, but how has fishing in the surf been post hurricane? My sister and brother-in-law live right on the creek in Camden, less than an hour from Northern Beaches (they evacuated, but reported very little damage/flooding in their neighborhood upon return). We have a long weekend next week (week after Labor Day, we're working today), and are thinking about a fishing trip as we have a place to stay. I'm willing to travel up or down the OBX as necessary, but I'm not sure what beaches/piers/roads are open.
My cousin spent several summers working as a mate on a Pensacola charter boat, and always claimed fishing was excellent in the weeks after hurricanes, due to the fish being confused and schooling much closer to shore, gobbling whatever they came across. Any thoughts, warnings, experiences or recommendations? Thanks for your help! O...
