Aright I'll admit it. I HAVE EATEN SKATE!! Me and some friends were camping had had a few beers and my friend hooked a skate deep and it was bleeding pretty good so we decided to eat it. We did our best trying ot clean it with a dull knife. If my foggy memory serves correctly, it did NOT Taste Like scallops buit it wasn't bad. It had a really unique taste that is really hard to compare to anything else but maybe dogfish. It really wasn't bad though.

You have to remember that the early New England settlers used to think the same thing about lobsters. They used to catch them only to fertilize their fields. Maybe skate is the new lobster.
