There is a public boat ramp in the sound near Kitty Hawk. July is a tough month because of high water temps and afternoon thunderstorms. However, if you have a variety of fresh bait, you can expect to hook up with some small to medium Red drum, flounder, sea trout, Southern Kingfish (sea mullet), croaker, spot, rays, and other assorted bottom fish. Pick some good weather days, get out early - expect those afternoon storms, and you wil have a great time. If you want to travel a little further south, there are several other boat ramps to launch out of. Good luck and enjoy your trip.
