I buy some fish from a local Wanchese fish house. The larger flounder always cost more per pound than the smaller ones. There is more usable meat per pound on the larger ones. Does anybody know if it works the same way with stripers? If it is the same, won't the commercial guys still cull for the biggest fish under a total poundage limit? If the same, won't a ton of 50 pounders bring in more cash than the same weight of 20 pound fish?
It is a step in the right direction but it is a baby step. Doesn't anybody at NCDMF realize that the entire stock of East coast fish is concentrated in a really small area off of our shores in the winter?
These are breeder fish! C'mon you trained wildlife management guys - use your head.
