This is an ugly mess, and it seems as though the NPS didn't do the residents any favors. Last weekend was my first time to OBX after living in Hampton Roads for the past 20 years (sad, I know) and I gotta tell you...I found heaven on earth. I'm afraid if the tree-huggers get their way, nobody will be allowed on the beach...ever. Spent most of three days ORVing on the beach (thanks to the storm, our rods remained empty the entire trip) and had a great time. Nice people, courteous locals, helpful folks at the tackle shops....and the beaches were surprisingly clean. I expected to see more litter with as many people as there are, but I saw VERY little.
