Long Nose Gar

I have noticed a lot of gar in the sound recently, I saw one in Wancheese the other day and I have seen several at our basin at Oregon Inlet Coast Guard Station. Then today I saw a guy catch one in a net by my house in the villiage at Nags Head. What gives? Is it normal for them to show up in salt water this time of year?
