I used to use the plastic 6 qt shoe boxes to make 10 lb blocks of ice for my cooler. 1 pt of water is about 1 lb of ice. It got kind of tedious having to keep pouring out the water, so I started using gallon milk jugs (the ones with screw caps)for making bulk ice. 1 gallon is about 8 lbs. Depending on the mfg, they go through about 5 or 6 freeze/thaw cycles before splitting at the seams. Never tried using the 2 qt/ 1/2 gallon size. That would be about a 4 lb ice chunk. Probably an easier size to fit in a cooler with other stuff. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the response. JeffW
