The water temps have been going up and down this summer on the northern beaches with more cold water days than warm. If your wondering why there's been a lot of breezy southwest wind this year and that's been dropping the water temps around the beaches from upwelling. Further out the water has been warm and the wind blows it in when the wind goes to an east direction. The northeast, east and southeast winds have been the better fishing.
Re: big drum, could be like that for awhile. The striper schools like the same area I don't know why. You'll probably have to go through some sharks and skates.
Just my 2 cents on fishing in general that week looking at the tide chart it says high tide will be running around sunset moving into after dark and around sunrise moving into later morning with a new moon on August 9th. That might mean the sunrise / sunset fishing could be good and the fishing pier lights at night might be worth checking out.
