I lived in Hanover, PA for a while and am famaliar with many places to fish in that area. We just returned from a trip to Sinnamahoning on the First Fork!

As for surf rods, it all depends what you're fishing for. For trout, spanish, blues, puppy drum, etc in the surf jig fishing you don't need any more than a 7' Medium/heavy. That should take care of 75% of the fish you'll catch in the surf. My favorite for the money is St. Croix and someone already mentioned the Shimano Sahara, which is a great reel. Of course, if you're bottom fishing you'll need something more stout.
