The gulp alive works great for several species. Try the 4 inch swimming mullet (twister tail grub)in pearl or chartreuse. The 4 inch shrimp in new penny or natural color is also a killer. Fish them on a red,white, or chartreuse jig head. A 1/4 or 3/8 works well with a 8 or 10 lb. line. Try different combos untill one works. Try different retrieves. A slow crawl, slow with a twitch, faster with a twitch. If you do this with these baits, you will catch fish! You should expect trout, flounder, and puppy drum but they attract other species as well. Good luck. The water is getting warmer every day and in my opinion, there should be fish biting in the surf and sound around Oregon inlet by the weekend.
