First Trip of the Year

Youth Opening Day for Trout was yesterday. Will the the last year my daughter qualifies as "youth" Nest year she'll have to attend the opening day with the rest of us adults. It was all business as my daughter declared she was hungry for a trout dinner. Got to the streamside early to find a nice hole where nobody would crowd us. Usually not a problem on youth day anyway. She hooked a small trout on the third cast that went back. About two cast later, she hooked into a monster. Pulled it up on the bank and the line snapped. The fish flopped a few times before going back in the water. Thing was over 20" and super fat. Looked like one of those cut throat/Rainbow highbreds. Spinner stopped working, to we went to bait. She gilled hooked two so we put those on the stringer and that was her limit. I could tell she wanted another crack at that big bow so I asked her if she wanted to fish more but they all had to go back. She kept fishing with the spinner until the rain moved in and we went home. She didn't talk the whole way home. Probably stewing over that lost fish. Can't blame her. We've all been there. She cooked her own trout for dinner.

Beautiful day here. Shad are moving up the Delaware. This maybe the year I target some American shad. Working on transplanting my strawberries into planters. Weeds moved in and chocked them out. Yard's a mess. Can't straighten it out till the mower gets fixed. This work stuff keeps getting in my way for getting things done.
