It's been awhile, I think I had the delta version. If I digested this double talk below right it's saying XBB and XBB.1.5 is more contagious because it has better grippers but is not as severe with less hospitalization and death rates because omicron and all the new omicron variants are attacking the upper respiratory tract — the nose and sinuses — instead of the lower respiratory tract in the lungs. Doesn't account for it hitting China hard with hospitalization and deaths for some reason. I'm guessing in this country we are developing some long term immunity from hospitalization and deaths by keeping it out of the lungs but not from catching it, previously was 50/50 percent shots/no shots hospitalization and death rates and a lot of people have either had COVID or the shots if they help and that would explain why the exact same strain is worst in China.
