Hi Jamie,
Yes you can take your own truck on the beach in Corolla. Route 12 just turns into the beach about three mile past the Corolla Light Town Center. Be prepared for a lot of people on the beach though. The first 5 or 6 miles is very crowded. The sun worshippers start to thin out once you reach this distance. If it is low tide, look for cuts in the beach or places where pieces of shells pile up. These are generally good places to fish. I work as a tour guide up-there and drive this area 10 - 15 times a week. This week they have been catching flounder, spot, croakers, and sea mullet pretty regular. Good luck on your trip.
