Yes of course were covert ops from Thailand to Laos and RVN. Had 2 hootch's there. 1 at Camp Samae San and 1 at Korat Royal Thai Air Force base. TAD about 75% of time. About impossible to sleep at Korat as hootch's next to airfield which was thundering 24/7 operation. Lots of cobras in grass around airfield. Don't know if was for security.
Didn't interact w/ Air Force much so can't give you much on specifics. F 105's = fighter bombers. Samae San next door to Utapoa Air Force base. U-2's and B52's there too. B52's 24/7. Payloads so heavy would have only enuf fuel for take off, then circle and have fuel topped off to continue missions.
Bit of humor...CO of Air Force at Utapoa had wife there. He was ranking officer over clubs at both bases. Clubs had frequent 100% nude dancers. Wife always pushin for Gen. to crack down. She lost. 1 night at Samae San local madam brought in (w/ approval) bus full of girls. Bus left base round midnight. No head count taken in or out. Had to laugh at sunup when about 20 girls who stayed had to "escape" base as best they could.
Lots of other stories bout monkeys, roaches, local "feminine" informants, Bangkok, theft, drugs...on and on but for another day.
You seem to still be defending "grunts". As said in prior post no need for you to do that. This Capt "never" did or would use such a degrading term.
Can we get back to purpose of this board?? Fishin, eatin, experiences?
