Report :

Fish Caught : Sea Mullet, Sheeps Head, Trigger Fish, Spade Fish, Flounder, Croaker, Shark, Ray's, Blues, Sea Bass, Dog Fish, Speckled Trout!!

Bait : Cut bait ( Finger Mullet ), Gotha Plugs, Mullet rigs, Sand Fleas, Shrimp.

Arrived late on Saturfay ( 5/23/09 ) The house was not ready at 4 pm when we arrived so we waited another 2 hrs before the house was complete!

Sunday, Woke up early to find a beautiful sound in the rear of the house and the Ocean in front! I took my newly bought cast net to the sound and began to throw for some mullet. After several casts it was apparent the mullet were not around so my Wifes little brother and I began to walk the sound eventually coming across some jumping mullet. We notised some much larger fish attacking the school and much to our surplrise one jumped out of the water only 15 ft infront of us. It appeared to be a Puppy drum or a regular drum ( Had a large spot on its tail.

After cast netting a bit and getting 12 - 15 finger mullet we headed to the Beach to set up. After having 3 mullet ripped off of my rigs, i realised these fish were playing hard to get! I went to the tackle shop and bought 3 Mullet rigs and set my lines up with them. Within 3 hrs my little Brother inlaw ( Andrew age 16 ) and i had landed 6 Blues each over 6 pounds ( 9 1/2 ) was the biggest! I would have pics but my wife would not let me use the cammera that I bought :) She told me to go buy a dispasable but forgot to do so until later in the week! should have pics from that soon.

Sunday : I did not fish, I walked the sound again admireing what they have there and what we use to have in the chesapeake! I did however come across something that i did not expect. A very large and very mean Cotton mouth snake! many of you know them as Water Mochasons ( i hope that spelling is correct.

Monday : Fished a very little with not luck with the exception of some small flounder. Went out back again and cast netted a bit. Caught 2 shrimp and some small fish nothing special. Actually i did catch a 13" flounder in the cast net! First time that ever happened.

Tuesday : Went out on the Capt. Clam. Very nice time. 18 people on the boat so it was not crowded at all and we caught alot of fish ( all undersize for me ) My Bro. Inlaw caught a 15" Flounder which was cool. I was more happy to see him get something then me! I would like to thank Brant who was the First Mate on the boat! He did a great job and was interesting to talk to!

Wed : Did not fish, went to Ocracoke and spent the day with the family, i love that littl island. I seen a shirt there that tells the whole story not only of the Island but the entire Outer Banks.

:: A quaint little drinking town with a Huge fishing problem :: I though it was a good shirt!

Thursday and Friday : Went to the Rodanthe Pier ( my personal favorite pier ) Caught Blues in the surf, Spanish at the end Flounder and mullet in the middle. Hooked up with 3 nice little sharks Friday as the winds changed and the water got muddy! Thursday was my favorite time as we caught 32 Sheeps head ( You can barely feel them nibble ) , 7 Trigger fish ( They hit hard!) and 3 Spade fish ( they were awesome to catch ) None of the Flounder were keeper size although a few other people a little further out caught a few!

Saturday : well i am now home typing this message and reminising about what a great time i had there.

Questions : When is the best fishing on the southern Islands ? We are coming back and making this our perminant Vacation spot. We want to come once in the Spring and once in the Fall. But i will move some dates around to get there when the good fishing is taking place!
