In Response To: Tomorrow is Christmas (Capt D)

Very good one Capt D, I'm grateful every Christmas that mine were like that too because some of my great grandparents had odd traditions.

My grandfather's mother would decorate the tree and keep it locked in a room until Christmas Day, I never got to see it.

Grandmother's father was a preacher they didn't have much and all would get one gift and he would make them give theirs away after Christmas.

She would still get angry and complain about that every Christmas. I think that's going too far, you have to take care of your piece of mind.

I understand the need for charity, gave extra furniture away that was past down to a family that lost everything in a fire.

Didn't get a chance to meet him, he had a heart attack while driving managed to pull over on the side of the road.

Anyway Food Lion has had great MVP deals on the hams, I got a couple of them set for Christmas also their frozen pies are cheaper than making one.

Finally got a new freezer.

Still have red russian kale, swiss chard, winter radish, beets, onions, fennel in the garden doing good. The freezes didn't do anything to it.

My tomatoes and peppers survived the first freeze but not the second a week later.

I did like that kale, not as strong a taste as curly. When I did that I'd mix it with turnip greens.

Trimmed the row back and got a trash bag full of leaves cooked down in 2 big pots, I freeze the extra cooked for later.

Didn't find much bug damage, found a couple of white caterpillar cocoons attached under the leaves and a spider while washing it off in the sink.

Pulled the whole main stem out of the leaves read it's woody and cooked with a little butter, salt and pepper for about an hour until looked done.

Turned out fine.

BTW, also noticed a couple of new places in the works, HomeGoods chain store is coming south end of the mall lot in Nags Head it was on the sign.

Another shop building was built on the very south end of Kitty Hawk west side of bypass not sure what that's going to be when open.

That new restaurant in the corner of Seagate Shopping Center north Kill Devil Hills looks like it's doing pretty good, I haven't tried it.
