Tomorrow is Christmas

Its almost here! Kids waiting anxiously - till tomorrow morning, parents (and grandparents) beat from shoppin and cookin.

Reminds this Capt of Christmases past. Like to share some memories of those Christmases past w/ you.

After midnite Christmas Eve would go out and throw long rope onto snow covered roof and pull down. 2x. Kids would show friends that Santas's sled had been on our roof...after all there were sled runner tracks up there!!

Christmas morning, 0500 hrs. would sneak past the kids rooms where they were already wisperin. Tie a red bow on doors to family room where tree and gifts were, w/ note from Santa = "No one enters till mom and dad come down". Then best part...snuck into foyer closet, closed the door and slowly, and very quietly at first shook the sleigh bells a few times, the bells then rang faster and faster, louder and louder till deafening (for this Capt in the closet). And suddenly bells would stop and dead silence.

Kids would sneak downstairs, find that Santa "had" eaten the snack they left for him, and the note on the door, and then they all gathered in one of their bedrooms, wisperin again, hoping mom and dad would get up soon. Sometimes if we were too long comin down they'd send our dog up to get us. Crazy as it seems he understood, was the one day of the year he was allowed into our bedroom.

Older days - simpler days they were. Each child got 20 or so gifts, not big things just small wrapped things. Opening would take about 4 hours, 1 gift at a time...w/ a light breakfast midway.

Then time to visit our parents, where there were more gifts, and special foods to be eaten. Funny thing today, kids don't remember most of the gifts but they do remember their Nana, and Grandpa and Grammy and the fun they had, we all had, as family.

That bein said...Lets not forget the real reason for the holiday. Christ is born again!

Best to all of you from our crew. Be warm, safe and hopefully w/ family or friends tomorrow. Make some memories!
