I fish mainly out of Weldon, NC because that is near the town I live in called Jackson. Sometimes I go out of Scotland Neck but I prefer Weldon. The bad thing about Weldon is there are a lot of rocks and when the water is low you must know how to navigate those rocks which isn't hard to learn. Plus the current makes it a challenge for anyone getting their boat back on their trailer without trailer guide bars but that two is easy to learn. I absolutely don't like going on the Roanoke River any further down stream then Scotland Neck due to High waters! I would always check the "Roanoke River, Roanoke Rapids Dominion generating schedule prior to going out of Weldon. During Shad and Rock fish egg season they always keep the waters just right. When the Water temperature gets between 62 and 65 the Rock Fish Spawn and us locals call it "Fighting". It's a sight to see and it's remarkable for the Rock fish to come all the way u
P the river from the Ocean to spawn. That's my favorite time to fish, I grew up at the beach so I am a Salt Water Fishing nut but I lived on near the Chowan River for 27 years and that where my family is from.
