I use both store bought rigs and make them myself as an off season hobby. The typical two hook rig with a snap swivel for your weight at the bottom has always worked well for me. The metal extensions hold your snelled hooks away from the rig to avoid tangles. You can loop the hook through the open end of the extension and the loop end of the snelled leader. I would buy the variety pack of snelled hooks so you can change size based on what you are fishing for.
When fishing is slow, I have seen people using hand tied heavy mono rigs getting hook ups more than others. These are basically the same set up as above, but all hand tied loops, no swivels, beads or metal at all. Just make a loop, over and under knot(twice if needed), top, two in between and bottom and there you go. About 20-30 pound mono is good, then use weight and snelled hooks of your choice.
