You always hear that for those big ships , they are better off at sea in a heavy storm , with their nose into the waves. Storm surge tossing one of those around can do some damage. I'd say it wasn't intentional on the captains part , and he was just following laws of the sea for big ships but ended up on the wrong side of the storm , or hit by a rogue wave. If anything is to blame , it would be it's age or the refit to add 90 feet , both by the owners to make $$ and not the captain! I'm sure the captain , like many , wouldn't have put his crew in danger just to please the owners...
