Old Memories

I remember riding in a dune buggy over on the west side of the bypass in Kitty Hawk before there was any houses.
It was just like the outskirts of Jockey's Ridge at the time, unstabilized dunes with clumps of tall grass and bushes scattered about.
Trails for them were all through there with a giant dune that you could make it up and over and another that was too steep but could do a half circle up.
They were at the end of Bay Drive, the big steep dune is the one in the corner overlooking Kitty Hawk Bay and the other big dune was near it.
Also was a ramp size dune somewhere further in the middle that was angled just right for you to get some speed on and jump.
You would come off a dune twice as big into and across a gully while flooring it this would launch you off the smaller dune on the other side.
I came out of the seat and hit my head on the roll bar the first time, you had to hold on to the bottom of the seat.
Later enjoyment was watching new homeowners deal with the wind blowing the sand out from under their pilings, clueless about what they destroyed.
