The land was different back then too, it was more like Jockeys Ridge. That was a hassle, the wind would keep blowing out a big gully or hole and building dunes in the yard we eventually fixed it with some loads of clay and planting black pine trees. I had one that kept forming in the front but I think the highway department got it when they put out centipede grass seed and wildflower seed along the bypass awhile back. The centipede grass did great and established itself, the wildflowers not so good some of the yellow ones are still around but you probably wouldn't notice them driving. I always ask the people working out there what they are doing.
