The black and white cats I've had were good mousers more so than birds, I guess the birds can see them better. Those plastic covered litter boxes or make a covered wood box that size with a big hole and some old towels in it for the worst part of winter is all they need and make sure they get some water if it stays below freezing. The cheap doubled plastic dog bowls don't freeze up as bad in a sunny spot. The big white ceramic bowls tend to crack sometimes when the water freezes or chipping at the ice, I've been getting those kind from the dollar store.
