Pin Rig Refresher Course

It has been close to 20 years since I fished off of the piers pin rigging. I wanted to try it again but wasn't sure if it would be worth it, when I will be down this summer. I know it is a waiting game even when the target species are around. We will be in Southern Shores for the week of August 10-17th. What are the chances of getting into cobia or king mackerel in mid August?

Also what is the "slide" called, that takes your live bait down the anchor line and allows the bait line to detach when a strike occurs?
