I've been thinking about coming up with something like it to keep the animals out. No groundhogs here but have foxes, possums, coons and rabbits along with deer. The bypass keeps their numbers down.
Usually the most trouble I have is with catbirds picking at the tomatoes and I've got a bunch of those birds around this year. Sometimes I can take one they have been picking at turn that side up and put it on the ground in the open and the birds will keep after the tomato leaving the others alone because the tomato is easier to reach, sometimes it doesn't work. The big brown thrashers like the cherry tomatoes, they take the whole cherry tomato then seem to show it off before eating it.
The birds rarely peck at the peppers but they tend to disappear if I leave them to long when ready. That might be people.
I was looking at the deer repellent at Ace Hardware in Kitty Hawk, kind of expensive I think it was around $25 dollars for a smaller size spray bottle and one kind was over $100 dollars for about a gallon.
