A lot of the guys that go for big game probably use big enough mono to "crimp" = no knots. Also wire leaders etc.
Have only been a couple of times , so I'm no expert. The wire leader guys probably use something like a palomar knot to the swivel and then a "Haywire Twist".
I wouldn't swear to any of the above though. Would be interesting to hear from some of the boat guys that know this stuff.
I've heard of people using "doubled" leaders , where each piece of mono would hold to the main line and the hook in case one broke. I dunno though.....
